RELAY COSTS TEAM B&B

Competitors from Band & Brown Communications took to the field earlier in July representing the PR industry – putting their strength, endurance and wits to the test at the ING Direct Inter-agency Sports Day.
Martin Rutland from ING Direct provided a captain’s performance for Team B&B dominating the three-legged race, the hoop run and the space-hopper sprint.
Despite valiant efforts from ING Direct’s James Ktoris in the penalty shoot out and B&B’s Mark Lowe in the welly-wanging, Team B&B’s performance was marred in an accident involving Rutland and B&B board director Graz Belli in the ‘underpants relay’.
At the close of the day, Team B&B’s Chris Blackwood outlasted all comers in the hula hoop endurance challenge to seal top spot for Team B&B, but controversy struck at the awards ceremony when Team B&B was dropped into the silver medal position.

EDGE'S 'NEXT STEP' CAMPAIGN

As hundreds of thousands of young people receive their exam results, Band & Brown has launched a national campaign for the education foundation Edge urging young people to remember ‘whatever your A-level results, know your options.’
The campaign is designed to tap into the ‘decision-making mindset’ of parents and young people during August exam results season. The centrepiece of the campaign, a guide intended to help young people navigate the many vocational and practical routes to success, was created in partnership with The Guardian.
The campaign also featured a news story revealing that 18,000 first and second year students (13 per cent) who entered university through clearing are unhappy about their choice of course with 46,000 (33 per cent) saying they rushed their university selection.
The story achieved print coverage for Edge in the Times, Sun, Daily Mirror, Metro and regional papers across the UK encouraging people to consider the many potential paths to success. It was also featured on BBC News Online, BBC London and BBC Five Live.
Working in partnership with fellow Cossette agencies MCBD and Elvis, the campaign was rounded off by a series of adverts in national broadsheets, on radio and online and a microsite providing advice for young people and invitations to engage in the country’s education debate or download a copy of the Next Step guide.

CISCO

Launching the Networking Academy
500,000 European IT jobs needed to be filled and with technology responsible for a major share of productivity growth across Europe, that spelt bad news for businesses, governments and economies.  We ran the CSR campaign, Networking Academy for Cisco, to address the problem.  As part of the programme we commissioned a 31-country study revealing shortages in advanced security technologies skills highlighted the need for government and industry to act.  The resulting media campaign around the research results generated 250 articles, a 38 per cent surge in enrolment to Cisco’s academy and grabbed the political agenda.

BIRD MUCK ACHIEVES WIDE SPREAD COVERAGE

Who knew bird poo was such a big problem?! According to a recent Band & Brown news story for our client Zurich Insurance, damage caused by bird muck is costing British motorists a whopping £57 million a year. Although bird lime (as it's officially known) is generally regarded as an unfortunate stroke of luck and a nasty mess, many people don't know that failing to remove bird muck from your car can cause lasting damage.
Band & Brown partnered up with YouGov on Zurich's behalf to commission the research, which broke the findings down by colour of vehicle and hot spots across the country for bird muck, and provided journalists with top tips on what to do if you find yourself at the other end of a bird strike:
1) 3Ps–Problematic, Purple Poo. Get rid of these as soon as possible. Many birds feed on berries that make their excretions a darker colour, which is high in acidic content and will dis-colour paintwork.
2) Don’t wipe; spray. All birds eat seeds. The hard seeds that are not digested are excreted with the lime so when you wipe it away they will scratch your paintwork.
3) Avoid broad leaf trees. Pigeons prefer to dwell, roost and breed in large trees that are most identifiable by their size and foliage.
4) Keep carbonated water in the car. Store an unopened bottle of carbonated water in the car. When you get droppings on the car use the water to power wash off the muck. Make sure to get a bottle without salt content.
5) Polish and wax your car. Polish and wax form an invisible layer of protection for your car and will protect again sun, birds and any other elements.
Finally... Use a cover for your car. The best way to save your car from bird lime is to use a cover during the summer months.
The combination of these top tips, a bird control expert and a well-versed spokesperson from Zurich generated a wealth of coverage, including the Daily Telegraph, Sunday Times, The Metro and page 3 of The Sport, as well as a wide range of coverage in regional broadcast and print, motoring trade titles and a fury of discussion in the bloggersphere!

BAND & BROWN GROWS NEW HEADS

Band & Brown is working with NCSL on a landmark campaign to recruit the next generation of headteachers in England, to replace the thousands who will retire in the next three years.
Many female teachers would make excellent heads but lack the confidence to put themselves forward. We set about addressing this with a dedicated campaign, ‘Women in Headship’, including a series of motivational seminars and landmark research on women’s aspirations for the top job.
The campaign secured front pages in two of the titles most read by teachers - TES and The Independent Education - reinforcing the message that women can do the job, and do it brilliantly. Our campaign has received messages of support from female teachers across the country.
