B&B PUBLICISE RISE IN CYBERCRIME

Band & Brown Communications together with online identity experts, Garlik, and criminologists from 1871 recently issued the second annual ‘UK Cybercrime’ monitor. This year’s report focused on the current financial crisis and its role in driving a wave of UK cybercrime that has seen online financial crime jump nearly twenty percent to 250,000 incidents in 2007 compared with 207,000 in 2006.
B&B secured coverage for Garlik on BBC Breakfast, BBC News Online, the Metro and Daily Mail, along with a number of leading technology sites including Computer Weekly, PC Pro, Pocket Lint and Silicon.com
Speaking about the findings of this year’s cybercrime monitor, Garlik’s CEO Tom Ilube said, “the startling growth and professionalisation of online financial fraud is the big story coming out of this year’s study. What we’re seeing is cybercriminals increasingly turning to ever sophisticated and professional techniques for trading and selling personal data for financial gain. It’s critical in this time of financial crisis that individuals are vigilant with their personal information because as long as the credit crunch continues, we can expect to see a real growth in online financial fraud.”
